Personality
MIND
At first glance Zari comes off shy and unassuming, its easy to over look her due to her small stature. But behind that small frame is a force to be reckoned with. She isn’t the sort that will not speak her mind, and will always speak up again injustice. She will not hesitate to put someone in their place if they need it. She tends towards sarcasm and sass, usually to hide how she’s actually feeling. She will always jumping in to lend a hand to anyone who needs it, which isn’t surprising considering she was taken in and raised by a couple who took one look at a lost girl in the woods and gave her a family no questions asked. Because of her history she leans towards keeping most people at arms length, not wanting to get too close. Most people she loves end up leaving her, not that it hurts less no matter how close they get, but its self preservation at this point.
She loves adventure, which explains her choice of profession. Moving around, taking on jobs, never staying in one place. She attributes this to her nomadic roots. She gets restless if she is in one place for too long, although a part of her longs find a reason to put roots down somewhere.

Early Life- Member of the Kha tribe
- Mother, father, older brother (3 years older)
- ”Unlike most of the Xaela, the Kha live on the fringes of the Xaela lands, actively seeking contact with non Auri peoples, introducing many aspects of those cultures into their own.”
- when Zari was six her tribe trusted the wrong people, people who turned out to be slave traders. One night they fell upon the tribe kidnapping the children and slaughtering many of the elders and adults. Zari and her brother were taken.
- They spent a weeks in the cargo hold of a boat, huddled together are terrified, not understanding most of the language being spoken.
- The older kids spent time trying to form a plan of escape once they reached land again.
- Zari’s memories of that time a vague, she remembers being scared, wanting her mother, cold and darkness and hunger. She remembers her brother telling her to be brave and that he would get them out and back home.
- When they reached land finally after forever at sea the older kids put their plan into motion.
- Zari’s brother told her when the time came to run, and to keep running and not look back, that he would find her.
- So she ran, she did exactly as he said, she ran and she didn’t look back and she kept running. She ran for what felt like hours until she couldn’t hear shouting or her pursuers or anything except the sounds of the forest.
- She never saw her brother again.
- To this day she doesn’t know if he was killed, if he escaped and couldn’t find her, or if he was somewhere in Garlemald working as a slave.
- Xaela start training their warriors at a young age, so even at six Zari had enough knowledge to survive for a time in the woods (which she eventually comes to learn is the Black Shroud)
- she wandered for a little while, a few days, not knowing what else to do. Unable to go back because she doesn’t know where back is.
- Eventually she stumbles upon an empty house and she’s so tired she curls up on the porch and falls asleep.
- Luck is on her side as the couple who live there are kind hearted and seeing the little girl who is clearly lost and malnourished and alone breaks their hearts. They over look the scales (which is something they have ever seen before) and they take her in. Raising her as their own.
- Eventually Zari takes up archery, she’s a warrior after all, it’s in her blood. She joins the Archer’s guild and it’s her skills that stop the taunting and ridicule she received from her looks. AuRa are very rare in Eorzea at that point.
- Zari was in Gridania when the calamity happened and Bahamut escaped from his prison and rained chaos down on Eorzea.
- Unfortunately by the time she was able to get home it was clear that her adopted parents didn’t make it
- Grief stricken and not knowing what else to do she eventually set out from the Black Shroud and traveled as an Adventurer for five years before making her way back home.
